It odd that the Google interfaces on the browser or the iPhone but the iPad interface just didn’t work well. It was something I constantly fought against but never found a better interface in any of the RSS reader apps that I tried. I’m a longtime user of Google Reader, but I hated the need to do a two finger flick to scroll. RSS feed reading has been a big problem for me on the iPad. There are things I’d rather do on the iPhone or Mac. In the end, for me the iPad is a limited use satellite device. How oddly painful to have the Twitter app spawning web page after web page since there’s no similar integration. Click on a tweet with a link in it and a browser window slides in with the web page displayed. Its best feature is the integrated web browser. But the Twitter App on the iPad is one of my favorites. For interesting reasons, I had little interest in Twitter until just a few months ago. Twitter is an interesting case because the experience is driven by the integration of the app with iOS. I think that iPad directed media will be an area for development and as a musical instrument, its got quite a nice start with synthesizer and drum machine apps. Netflix streaming video, reading mainstream news sites (New York Times, Washington Post, etc), and Flickr. I never bonded with the iPad the way I have with my iPhone. As a personal device, Useful, but not my companion. Its been a useful device, worth the money for the family just as an attractive media and browsing package. I’m glad I grabbed a WiFi+3G iPad on release.

I bought the original, had to upgrade to the 3G, skipped 3GS since I saw little reason to spend any money on it, then grabbed the iPhone4 which was a major advance. AT&T has always given me the upgrade choice. At this point we all believe that the new version is going to be coming around each summer. And I think worth considering in detail here to illustrate a decision process. It was worth considering formally because a Mac purchase is a 3 year technology commitment. It was an interesting decision, long in development. For a complete rundown of everything that's changed in Yosemite, read our review.Īnd if you have any questions, let me know in the comments.I’ve got a 13″ MacBook Air on the way. Hopefully by now you're running Yosemite and enjoying Apple's efforts to modernize and harmonize the Mac with a new user interface, cool new features and more.

If you wanted to keep another copy but forgot to make one, you can always download it again from the Mac App Store for free. If you've left the Yosemite installer in its default location in the Applications folder, it will have automatically deleted itself after it's installed. Then it will move these apps and system extensions to a folder called "Incompatible Software." Again, check with developers for updates to any apps you rely on.

It may also find software that won't work with the new operating system if it comes across any, it will warn you. Post Yosemite clean-upĪfter Yosemite is installed, the installer may ask you a few questions. Once the installer has put the new software on your Mac, just step back, go have a beverage or a snack, and let it do its thing.

Select the hard drive you'd like to install it on (for most of us, that's the only hard drive the Mac has), and then let the installer do its thing - your Mac will restart and begin the upgrade process.įor the most part, installing Yosemite is a hands-off process. If you've saved it for later use, you can double-click it like any other application. Once Yosemite installs it will automatically launch. If you don't happen to have an external hard drive handy, moving the installer out of the Applications folder should stop it from deleting itself once it's done upgrading your Mac. The installer can be copied like any other file or application - just drag it to the target disk. If you're upgrading multiple Macs with Yosemite, make sure to copy the installer to an external hard drive or a USB thumbdrive so you don't have to download it again. That's a great way to save hard drive space. That installer measures several gigabytes, and will automatically delete itself after installation as part of its own housecleaning process. That's something you'll only find in most 2012 or later era machines.ĭownloading Yosemite will deposit the installer inside your Applications folder.
